Sydney Apartments

Same as with other Australian Metropolitan regions, the prices for apartments in Sydney can vary considerably. The golden rule still applies: 'the closer to CBD the more financial damage for the rent'.

Sydney and nearby Parramatta, Eastern Suburbs, Liverpool, The Hills and others are high density urban regions. Sydney is undoubtedly the Australian business center and city apartments are common there.

Sydney Apartments for Rent

The outrageous property prices in Sydney region force majority of urban dwellers to rent. City apartments are probably more common in Sydney than anywhere else in Australia. Sydney apartments (both for renting and buying) are currently the only option for an average Sydney inhabitant. Same as with Melbourne, only the outer city suburbs offer realistic chances to own a house.

The rent for a Sydney apartment can vary considerably:

  • In Eastern suburb such as Surry Hills you will hardly get anything for less than $430 per week.
  • Parramatta can be cheaper but high $300 per week city apartment is the best you can get.
  • Northmead can offer good deals of $360 per week for a 1 bedroom flat.

Let's view some of the Sydney region renting apartments.

Renting Prices for Sydney CBD Apartments

Sydney CBD is the most expensive ($500 per week is regarded as a good deal). Apartments in areas with landmarks will not go for less than $1400 per week.

Unless you want Sydney Opera to face you all day long, you do have decent apartments in Sydney for a high $500 per week. This price can include fully furnished 2 bedrooms with facilities.

It is still cheaper to rent the Sydney city apartment than to hire a hotel. However, in many cases the gap is narrow and many business people prefer to hire serviced apartments, motels or hotels.

Renting Prices for Apartments in Sydney Eastern Suburbs

Eastern Suburbs (Surry Hills, Alexandria, Zetland, The Rocks, etc) are the most property priced Sydney regions. The city apartments are widely available but for a high cost. You can expect to pay $800/$900 per week to rent a 1 bedroom apartment in The Rocks. Bargains are rather uncommon there.

Surry Hills offers $600+ renting places but lower $500 per week flats are also available. Zetland and Alexandria ranges between $600 - $1000 per week for a good quality Sydney apartment.

Renting Prices for Parramatta and Sydney Western Suburbs

Parramatta such as Oatlands, Auburn, Camellia are a more accessible properties in Sydney. City apartments in Oatlands and Auburn can range between $360-$460 per week. Bargains are available but high renting prices in Sydney will make it difficult to spot.

The rent prices in Camellia range between $365 to $500 per week for a good location and 2-3 bedroom apartment. Renting detached houses is difficult and only Sydney Western Suburbs offer realistic prices.

Sydney Western Suburbs like Box Hill, Arcadia, Blacktown offer city apartments between $350 to $800 per week. Obviously, the more expensive ones provide more rooms and higher standard than Eastern Suburbs apartments.
